Mechanical Engineer

JDI Contracts is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with 5–10 years of industrial engineering experience to support mechanical design, project engineering, equipment fabrication, and construction activities for heavy industrial facilities.


This position offers a broad range of responsibilities and exposure to every phase of a project—from concept development and detailed engineering through fabrication, construction, startup, and commissioning. Successful candidates enjoy solving technical challenges, working directly with clients, and collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical systems for industrial facilities and process equipment.
  • Develop detailed engineering drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Design piping systems, equipment layouts, structural supports, and mechanical components.
  • Coordinate closely with electrical, instrumentation, controls, and process engineering teams.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and reporting.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, scopes of work, and technical documentation.
  • Review drawings, resolve design issues, and support constructability reviews.
  • Perform field verification, site assessments, and engineering support during construction.
  • Assist with contractor coordination, quality assurance, and project closeout.
  • Support startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing client operations.
  • Participate in client meetings and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to proposal development and sales support when required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited four-year university.
  • 5–10 years of mechanical engineering experience in industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Experience with piping system design, routing, and structural steel detailing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industrial plant engineering or consulting experience.
  • Construction field engineering experience.
  • Process equipment or skid system design experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project and/or Primavera scheduling software.
  • Integrated project delivery experience.
  • EIT or PE certification (preferred but not required).
